How to work a little Americana style into your look.

How to work a little Americana style into your look.

Americana Style

The Americana trend is a laid back look with a little splash of glamour, whether this is wearing an old school style jumper, frayed denim jeans and fringed suede heels or a basic tee, cut off denim shorts and this seasons must-have wedged heels.

The key detail to work when styling towards the Americana look is fringing detail.  Bags, shoes, tees and belts are all working this element into their attire.

Another must have investment is a killer pair of suede heels, work either fringed stilettos, lace up Cuban heels or statement ankle tie wedged shoes.

Finish the outfit with this seasons ‘it’ bag, the bum bag and again its vital that this has fringed detailing.

Turquoise, chocolate leather, silver and brass should work there way into anything from jeans, shoes, bags, bracelets, statement neckpieces and chunky cuffs.

Take inspiration from the spring and summer 2010 catwalks and mix and match designer with highstreet.  Department stores are great places to pick up mid range jewellery and statement bags.  Mid brown antique leather style bags add an instant vintage edge to a doubled up denim ensemble and also go perfectly well with summer floral prints for a more flirty approach to this seasons Americana trend.

Moccasin flats are a great option for day attire and those seen on the catwalk and on the highstreet all have added fringe detail as well as stud embellishments.  This trend certainly needs a pair of statement shoes, as it will finish the outfit off perfectly.

If you do one thing this season make sure it is to double up your denim.

If you do one thing this season make sure it is to double up your denim.

Fancy yourself as a bit of a jean genius, show your true colours this season in a denim duo and you certainly will be.  The spring shows were a sea of denim for 2010, but models were wearing not one but two pieces of designer denim.  This is certainly a look to keep an eye on as is set to be big for this season.  With fashion followers such as Alexa Chung, Ashley Olsen and Sienna Miller already sporting the look its no surprise.
The runways showcased an array of denim creations; everything from classic pieces such as jackets and jeans to statement items including denim brogues and studded cuffs took to the runway.  For laid back luxe slip an oversized button down denim boyfriend shirt over any outfit, or alternatively to add a little edge to an ensemble, work this season’s denim vest either layered over a long sleeved tee or teamed with a plaid shirt.

Designers at this season’s shows were predominantly channelling the inner 70’s chic, with the main rule of the runway being to mix and match.  The catwalk emulated this rule perfectly by showcasing a mix match of shades thrown together and in turn created a high impact statement look.

A key point to note when working this season’s denim doubling trend is to keep each piece a shade apart otherwise you run the risk of looking like you have just stepped out in an all in one body suit.

The most popular denim styles for spring/summer 2010 appear to be in the shape of skinny, distressed and torn, created in dirty khaki, grey, black and blue tones.

How to work this season’s ‘rave hippy’ look.

When working the ‘rave hippy’ look one, rule to bear in mind is to literally just go with the flow.  Don’t be afraid to clash prints, throw various colours into the mix or pair odd pieces together, this trend is all about experimentation.

Accessories are a must when raving your look up, an abundance of ties, ribbons, and statement neon colourised watches and friendship bracelets should adorn the wrist.  The more the better, catwalks even portrayed models wearing not one but two statement bright time pieces.

In order to find the best pieces you should search around a variety of stores, charity shops and vintage markets as mixing odds and random items creates the perfect rave attire.  Old can be teamed with new and you shouldn’t stick to just one brand.

This look screams individualism and therefore the wearer should go with the flow, don’t try and copy a high street style, simply take the key pieces and throw them together in your own unique way.  Inspiration can be sought from catwalks, retro photos, magazines and icons.  By teaming a little style from each will in the end result in an extremely unique creation, therefore you won’t see anyone else in the same creation.

Denim is a must and as this season is working the denim duo look, its’ perfectly on trend for 2010.  Look to the 1980’s for tips and inspiration.

To finish the ensemble requires some serious rave footwear, Converse have release a denim studded pair of sneakers that scream 1980’s style or to add a little edge to an outfit, look to Charlotte Olympia’s leopard enthused shoe line.
