The season has revealed denim to be many Designers’ favourite fabrics for 2010. Denim flooded the menswear catwalks for spring, with designers such as D&G and Lanvin revealing an array of garments created in the on trend fabric. The new way to sport denim this season is certainly from top to toe and Doubling up the Denim is a must.

This once notorious and diverse trend has done a complete U-turn in the fashion world and is now one of the most wearable looks for this season, for both male and female. Marios Schwab is one such fashionable designer who revealed himself to be a big fan of the trend, and was recently took at the London Fashion Week show wearing a combination of dark blue skinny jeans teamed with an uber cool open faded denim shirt.

With traditional ‘workwear’ roots, this trend is extremely easy to pull off, especially if you base the look on a great pair of jeans. One such pair of statement jeans that has stood out on the catwalks this season is the studded Ricky jeans by True Religion and the ripped jeans from Acne. In regards to the coolest skinnies, opt for a pair from the label Nudie Jeans. Team any one of these uber cool pieces with a thin denim shirt. There are no rules with this trend so mixing and matching is a must.

Look to the D&G spring/summer show for ideas on how to wear the look, where distressed and dusty denim jeans and shirts were awash on the runway.

You can guarantee that most wardrobes house at least one piece of denim if not several pieces and if this season’s double up trend is to continue taking the fashion front by storm, there are surely only more purchases to be made.

Jeans have been a staple style for longer than most people care to remember and they echo a look that is uncomplicated, seductive and powerful.

The magical thing about denim is it can be dressed up or down; it can be worn with heels and an evening top or simply teamed with trainers and a tee. Denim is certainly the most practical and versatile of fabrics and is readily available in an array of styles, from faded and distressed to cleanly cut and deep indigo.

This trend represents your childhood years but at the same time congers up a seductive and rebellious image and of course it’s extremely American.

Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Chloe, Ashish, Marc Jacobs, Jean Paul Gaultier, Balmain, Stella McCartney and Balmain are all work the denim look to the max with models sashaying down the runways in array of doubled up denim ensembles.

Both Dolce & Gabbana and Herve Leger showcased the denim jacket with the denim jeans thing whilst Stella McCartney went for a simple cut classic style. Louis Vuitton worked a fun and playful look with statement hair and pom pom style accessories

Denim has always been and seems set to stay firmly at the forefront of fashion, the only features altering being the shade and styles. Skinny white drainpipes may be in one minute and the next, over the top statement high-waisted flares.

Fancy yourself as a bit of a jean genius, show your true colours this season in a denim duo and you certainly will be. The spring shows were a sea of denim for 2010, but models were wearing not one but two pieces of designer denim. This is certainly a look to keep an eye on as is set to be big for this season. With fashion followers such as Alexa Chung, Ashley Olsen and Sienna Miller already sporting the look its no surprise.
The runways showcased an array of denim creations; everything from classic pieces such as jackets and jeans to statement items including denim brogues and studded cuffs took to the runway. For laid back luxe slip an oversized button down denim boyfriend shirt over any outfit, or alternatively to add a little edge to an ensemble, work this season’s denim vest either layered over a long sleeved tee or teamed with a plaid shirt.

Designers at this season’s shows were predominantly channelling the inner 70’s chic, with the main rule of the runway being to mix and match. The catwalk emulated this rule perfectly by showcasing a mix match of shades thrown together and in turn created a high impact statement look.

A key point to note when working this season’s denim doubling trend is to keep each piece a shade apart otherwise you run the risk of looking like you have just stepped out in an all in one body suit.

The most popular denim styles for spring/summer 2010 appear to be in the shape of skinny, distressed and torn, created in dirty khaki, grey, black and blue tones.
