Girl bands and the new Gaga

Girl bands and the new Gaga

Girl brands are mot definitely proving to be the new Gaga for this season and 2011 has brought with it an array of new faces.  One band to watch out for comes in the shape of the LA four piece, Warpaint.  This band is set to fill that Girls Aloud shaped hole in the music industry and their post rock debut album has already granted them an NME cover as well as many music connoisseurs respect.

Solo girls such as the likes of Florence, Cheryl and Rihanna were the ones to take over our iPods last year but this year our music minds may change, girls are still in but en masse for 2011!

Check out Warpaint’s The Fool, make sure its on your iPod if you want to be in with the music crowd, as well as the above check out the Britts Ruff Diamondz, which feature a rapper and two female singers.  Also on your iPod should be the Popettes Wonderland, they are managed by the one and only Louis Walsh.  We can’t wait to see what they come up with!

Add a little girl band rock to your style, this season is more retro rock than girly glamour, think statement and rebellious black attire, blazer jackets, choppy haircuts, top hats and invest in a guitar!

Inside Blake Lively’s stylish wardrobe.

Inside Blake Lively’s stylish wardrobe.

Blake Lively not only plays a main part in one this season’s top TV shows but is also proving herself to be a little bit of a style icon.

The actress may work the pretty, preppy; girl next-door look on screen but off screen is another story!  The A-lister’s style has gone supersonic this summer, she has been seen wearing the likes of prestigious designers such as Chanel, Marchesa, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson and Juicy Couture, and these are just a few of the designers flooding Blake’s much desired wardrobe.

Lively was seen chatting to US Vogue’s Anna Winter at the Paris Couture Shows, Wintour has in fact stated she is one of Lively’s biggest fans and to prove this Blake is to appear on the cover of Vogue for the second time in six months!

Despite having one of the most enviable wardrobes to date, the actress’s real passion is shoes.  It has been reported that Lively has in fact purchased over three hundred pairs in the past two years alone, dedicating an entire closet to her much beloved footwear!

Her love for clothes and shoes began at a very young age, her mother who was a former model would tailor adult clothes to fit Blake as she didn’t want her to be seen in anything similar to the other children but instead as an individual.  It’s however Blake’s naturalness and ease that really gets our attention, she doesn’t seem too perfect nor too sultry and this is exactly why she is quickly becoming recognised as a major fashion icon.

How to create the perfect tough girl-style hot pants.

How to create the perfect tough girl-style hot pants.

Alexander Wang is certainly one such designer working this year’s New York grunge-glam style, his chain-and-denim grungy creations are set to be a big hit for 2010 and already on many fashionista’s ‘must buy’ lists.

If you can’t quite wait to get your hands on a pair then here are a few simple steps in re-creating your own from an old pair of high-waisted jeans. First of all you will need to invest in a good pair of scissors, a pair of pliers, a needle and thread and a cheese grater, this will aid in adding a little distress to the denim. Accessorise the finished garment with a long chain; this can be picked up from most hardware stores for a couple of pound.

Once you have all your tools you can get started. Simply cut the legs of an old pair of denim jeans using scissors. Take the pliers and cut the chain into different lengths, this will act as a finishing accessory and will dangle off the denim at different angles. To add an authentic fray, use both the cheese grater and scissors to cut both rips and add distress to the denim. The metal chain can then be stitched securely into the rips created; the pliers can then be used to close up the chain links, meaning they won’t become loose.

To add a little glam to this look, layer your newly created grunge denim hot pants over some lace cut-offs. Team with heels or lace up boots for an evening look or keep it simple with a retro tee and old school sneakers for day time attire.
