Retro Glamour or fashion forward?

Retro Glamour or fashion forward?

When it comes to the party season, picking out that perfect outfit can sometimes be a little tricky!  On the red carpet this season, two trends have predominantly stood out; such trends come in the shape of retro glamour and the fashion forward trend.  Both are big hits for the Christmas season and will most definitely have you looking like the bell of the ball at any up and coming event you may have planned.

When it comes to retro glamour, take inspiration from the 50’s silhouette and old school glamour.  Mostly this style requires a curve boosting prom dress in a rich and vibrant shade, take a few style notes from the actress Eva Mendes, who was recently seen sporting an emerald prom dress, teamed with killer heels and a cutesy contrasting clutch.  With this trend you must be a little careful when styling, especially if you want to avoid looking like a bridesmaid.  In order to work the look don to a tee, keep the hemline above the knee and the shade a rich jewel colour.  Finish with locks that are both loose sexy for that extra sultry edge!

If you are more of a fashion forward thinking individual then swap the maxi dress for a trim pair of cocktail shorts.  Team your new shorts with a silky and sophisticated crisp shirt; finish the look with a sky-high pair of killer heels and a cute clutch.  Alexa Chung I one such fashionista that likes to stand out from the crowd and also one of the A-list celebrities that has this look nailed!

The 43-year-old fashion icon Daphne Guinness is also another A-list celebrity that has donned the metallic hair hue this season.

The grey hair trend first appeared on the fashion front at both Gareth Pugh’s and Giles Deacons spring and summer fashion runway shows for 2010, grey is now working its way into all areas of life and models, street styler’s and rock punk girls are working the trend.

The new found trend is said to have been sourced from the hair phenomenon that has been entitled ‘blonderexia’ and bleaching the hair has gone one step further, the fashion savvy crowd are now making their hair just that little bit lighter every time, which in urn creates that subtle grey sheen.

It appears that every other girl and guy is now sporting the grey hue on their heads and it is one trend that seems set to stay for 2011.

Team your new grey look with an all-new party dress, this season is all about going over the top and what better way to do this than to invest in a daring number with a plunging neck line. Look to the hit TV show Mad Men for inspiration on showing off those womanly curves.

Former Central Saint Martins student and British designer Stella McCartney has revealed 2010’s Autumn/Winter must-have wardrobe staples. The renowned fashion designer recently hit the Paris runways in order to showcase her new no-nonsense debut line.

This year’s line however is less showy and in your face, the range features a look that echoes a laid back casual cool. Matching trouser sets, immpeccable tailoring and luxurious knits in cashmere made up this seasons daywear whilst lace evening wear embellished in subtle sequins created a look that boasted perfect no-nonsense glamour.

These quality pieces still echo the designers much-loved signiture style and high-standard yet the pieces appear much more laid-back than her previous collections. Garments include sixties style tunics in two styles, one offers a more subtle look for daytime attire whilst the other is more appropriate for evening, with a revealing neckline and added chiffon detailing. Other pieces included graphic print futuristic short dresses teamed with uber fitted trousers, these items worked well together to create the perfect silhoette.

The new collaborations are said to be both flattering in fit yet still comfortable to wear through out the day. This sex appeal was achieved through the detailing and added embellishments which stood out on each garment. Skirt suits were finished with a chiffon band and over sized ribbed knits were created in bright block colours, adding some extra pizazz to an otherwise everyday item. Even the parka jackets appeared sophisticated, created in both tan and black and white shades with added zip adornments appearing on the central back seams.

These are the perfect wardrobe essentials for the up and coming autumn and winter season, as whilst they are still sexy they are also comfortable and subtle enough to wear daily, whether that be the office or out for cocktails after work.
