Party like the stars

Party like the stars

Its certainly the season to get glammed up, why not make a statement and take a few style tips from the A list celebrities, they are the ones with an entourage of stylists, make-up artists and designer friends after all!

This season has showcased two very particular trends, the grunge luxe look, and the ‘I’m ‘feeling fierce’ trend, Both are great looks for Christmas 2010 and each promises to make a statement at any up and coming work dos or events you may have planned.

The grunge luxe look is one of the easiest party looks to create this season as is great for the busy working girl, simply swap your working jacking for a sparkly number, this will give statement skinnies and a casual tee that extra glam edge, finish the look with leather boots, laid back locks and a fierce hand bag or clutch.  This understated look offers a dose of bling and is an inexpensive way to upgrade a daytime outfit to a party outfit in no time.

If you are feeling a little fierce then take to the floor in an animal enthused number.  This is the perfect way to shake off the constraints of your office dress code and comes in the shape of a thigh skimming skin tight number; take a few style tips from Chloe Sevigny for inspiration.  The model and actress was recently seen wearing a racy leopard print dress, she added an extra edge to the look by teaming it with killer platforms and a patent leather red box clutch.

The designer duo Basso & Brooke have announced that they will be launching an exciting new printed interiors collection. The pair who can usually be found dressing the likes of the renowned singer Beyonce and also the stylish Michelle Obama, have this season taken a step in different direction. The pair has in fact designed a series of innovative digital prints; these aesthetically pleasing prints have been applied to an assortment of specially made furniture and home commodities.

The designers have stated that the world of interiors is something that has always interested them and one direction they have always intended to follow. The introduction of interiors to the designer’s current line has made them very much a lifestyle brand. They were initially classed as a print label so therefore this expansion of the brand seems a natural route to follow, there designs can be printed onto any surface, whether this is a dress, skirt, bedspread or chair.

Although Basso & Brooke didn’t design the furniture they had a huge input in the style of furniture used in the collection. The pair have stated that the pieces in the range are very much influenced by a mixture of both tradition and technology, which is why they opted for hand-carved French furniture in an extremely traditional style. By adding digital prints and hi-pop wood embellishments means there is also an element of contemporary in their designs

The next projects the pair have in mind are said to include a hotel suite or restaurant interior, enthusing a variety of digital imagery into either.

The collection will be featured at The Shop at Bluebird on the King’s Road in London and will be available to purchase throughout the summer season!

Ski-style for 2010

Ski-style for 2010

Ski-Style 2010Whether you are a pro on the slopes or you are just hitting the snow for fun, this season’s skiwear promises attire that is both professionally finished and highly technical and as these garments are being designed by well-known athletes we would expect nothing less!
The high-tech materials these items are being created in boast to keep the wearers body temperature at a high even on the coldest of days.  Materials such as soft-shell are extremely durable and have a high resistant to water exposure, but at the same time allow for free movement.  Metallic properties and synthetic fibres maintain the body temperature whilst Polartec allows full breathability in the shape of two-way air exchange.
Designs have both been created in clean contemporary cuts as well as more casual styles, with added details such as zippers, logos and buttons.  For a more elegant twist on this seasons ski style, some manufacturers have opted for a high-fashion look in the form of cashmere accessories.
Colour is both daring and bold this season, those taking to the slopes shouldn’t be afraid to clash hot pinks with bright yellows.  The new colours range from burnt oranges and sulphur yellows to storm greys and powerful purples.
As well as this season’s ski attire playing on bold and in your face colour palettes, they are also big on print, with chessboard patterns, geometric shapes, pixel prints, micro images and herringbone adorning either a small area of the garment or the entire surface.  Camouflage and leopard designs have also made an appearance, bringing back an essence of the eighties to the slopes.
Another new addition comes in the shape of ‘Rock Chic’ style and offers garments created in wet-look materials that almost appear leather.  An element of fur added to an ensemble creates a classic look that is also set to be big this season.

How to work this season’s ‘rave hippy’ look.

How to work this season’s ‘rave hippy’ look.

When working the ‘rave hippy’ look one, rule to bear in mind is to literally just go with the flow.  Don’t be afraid to clash prints, throw various colours into the mix or pair odd pieces together, this trend is all about experimentation.

Accessories are a must when raving your look up, an abundance of ties, ribbons, and statement neon colourised watches and friendship bracelets should adorn the wrist.  The more the better, catwalks even portrayed models wearing not one but two statement bright time pieces.

In order to find the best pieces you should search around a variety of stores, charity shops and vintage markets as mixing odds and random items creates the perfect rave attire.  Old can be teamed with new and you shouldn’t stick to just one brand.

This look screams individualism and therefore the wearer should go with the flow, don’t try and copy a high street style, simply take the key pieces and throw them together in your own unique way.  Inspiration can be sought from catwalks, retro photos, magazines and icons.  By teaming a little style from each will in the end result in an extremely unique creation, therefore you won’t see anyone else in the same creation.

Denim is a must and as this season is working the denim duo look, its’ perfectly on trend for 2010.  Look to the 1980’s for tips and inspiration.

To finish the ensemble requires some serious rave footwear, Converse have release a denim studded pair of sneakers that scream 1980’s style or to add a little edge to an outfit, look to Charlotte Olympia’s leopard enthused shoe line.
