Invest in this season’s one shouldered style attire.

One-shouldered dresses are taking both the red carpets and the catwalks by storm this season, with an array in various colours being showcased. A one shouldered piece is a perfect summer getup and is great for evenings; the stylish A-list seem to be opting for a variety of asymmetric styles this season.

The red carpet revealed an assortment of looks including Zoe Saldana’s gorgeous Calvin Klein number, which was a simple and light like take on the trend. Elle went for a super sultry leather version and Kristen worked a glamorous and ruffled look, sporting a dress created by the fashion house Marchesa, this particular style will flatter a variety of figures and works for pretty much everyone.

To take on this season’s top trend, look to Lanvin for a few style notes, the cinched in waists, satin fabrics and layering are perfect for summer parties and weddings. However if you would prefer to tone down the look and work a more low key option, take some inspiration from the supermodel Kate Moss and invest in a minimalist, timeless style for autumn. Finish the look with a statement pair of new season pointed stilettos.

Look brighter and fresher in an instance with a summer style blush.

There is an array of blushers available on the market, from creams and tinted gels to mousse formulas and powders. The creams, tinted gels and mousses aid in creating a softer and more natural effect than the standard powder formulas, they also have the added bonus of lasting longer, this makes them perfect for the warmer months. These particular styles of blushers are also great for mature skin as they are extremely moisturising and won’t age the complexion.

For best results the preferred blusher should be applied over other make-up, depending on how strong or subtle you desire the blush to be depends on how heavy you should apply the product. For a more dramatic look a darker more intense shade should be used but for a natural, barely there look a lighter shade should be applied to the cheeks.

The blush formula should be applied to the apples of the cheeks; the best technique in order to do this is to smile. The product should then be applied using an upward and outwards motion in order to blend the colour correctly; the blush should run along the cheekbones and towards the temples.

Using a brush will create the illusion of both a smooth and flawless effect. If you are using a liquid tint style product, the formula should be blended quickly using the fingertips, as these particular styles of blush tend to dry extremely quickly.

If you have fair skin you should opt for a soft pink or peach palette, as these shades will brighten a pale complexion. Tawny and rose hues work better on olive toned skins and brighter pigments in lilac, raspberry pinks and plums are perfect for darker skins.

A deep sun-kissed glow proves to be all the rage for 2010.

Arrays of A-list celebrities have been spotted sporting a sudden deep sun-kissed glow, proving the rumours are true. Pale skin is out and a dark fake tan is in.

Alexa Chung, Chloe Sevigny and Blake Lively were just a few of the famous faces seen sporting the ‘it’ tan and both the models and actresses were all seen looking a shade darker. Alexa Chung was first seen working the deep tanned look at an event hosted by top designer Christopher Kane. Donatella Versace is another famous face to have opted for a deeper shade, even deeper than her usually shade of bronze.

There have been stories circulating for a while now that the trend of the darker tan is to make a comeback; celebrities have proven these rumours are certainly true. The past seasons have shown the paler complexion to be a hit yet all is set to change in preparation for summer 2010.

In order to achieve a natural deep shade you should opt for an olive toned tan and stay as far away from the orange pigments as possible. Team your new tan with aqua attire, this is the perfect on trend colour to compliment your new darker shade and is also a shade that is set to be a hit for summer.

Xen Tan and St Tropez are certainly the biggest names when it comes to faking that ‘just been away look’ and in order to celebrate this season’s tan trend they have launched a variety of products in even deeper shades for summer.

Xen Tan’s Dark Lotion Absolute Luxe is priced at £34.99 and allows you to achieve that sun kissed look at home. St Tropez’s have launched a new spray tan, the Dark Mist Tan which is priced at £30 and is available in salons now.

Introducing the revamped backbacks and bumbags, a top trend for 2010.

It certainly seemed a fair while ago since Prada’s nylon rucksacks took centre stage on the backs of the urban choice crowd, however it now seems these chic utilitarian creations are about to make a second appearance, especially since the rucksack and bumbag are the perfect tool for today’s hectic lifestyles.

There are an array are styles available from over the top creations in luxurious fabrics to more low-key and hard wearing designs in canvas materials. Marc Jacobs showcased embellished pieces complete with trinkets and fringing details, these details were attached to duffel bags in monogrammed fabrics. Over at Ashish, girls were sporting East Paks created in acid bright colours and ink dyed to keep in with his cyber tribe style. Heikki Salonen revealed an alternative in the shape of a classic leather piece with canvas strap detailing.

If you prefer the more grown-up and sophisticated option, opt for bold buckles in brass and luxurious leather straps, this is the perfect look for the city and still right on trend for the 2010 season. DKNY showcased this grown-up style aptly with hand stitched leather sacs whilst Missoni offered a similar sophisticated style in the shape of slouchy drawstring bags with slashed detailing. Designer Ally Capellino introduced a neutral palette, with designs echoing natural hues and completed with leather binding embellishments.

This season sees another bag style take centre stage in the shape of the old school yet revamped bumbag, innovative and smaller envelope style sizes seemed the most preferred shapes for 2010.

Master the art of the bigger brow and work this season’s trend for fuller brows.

Big brows are certainly proving a hit this season and when done well they will create the appearance of a face that offers a really groomed finish. The first step is to remove all the stray and untidy hairs from both below the arch of the eyebrow and the centre. This can be done using tweezers; you should use precision tweezers with pointed ends along with an eyebrow gel, which will aid in creating a natural shape. The eyebrow gel should be smoothed over the eyebrows in order to get all the hairs facing the same direction, which will in turn help to create the perfect brows.

You should then fill in the brow shape you desire to create using an eyebrow shadow; a shadow a shade darker than your natural eyebrow colour is required. This will add extra definition and create a bolder more dramatic style.

The final touch is to finish off the look with an eyebrow pencil, which can be used to fill and define the eyebrows shape. Filling with an eyebrow pencil will create the illusion of a more compact and fuller brow; you should opt for an eyebrow pencil that has a strong texture and make-up and also one that suits your shade perfectly.

In order to truly finish the look and create eyes that appear both dramatic and definite, add a slick of lash lengthening and volumising mascara to the ensemble.

The new pretty, it’s certainly not for the girly girl.

Lily Allen

You may think the new ‘pretty’ trend would be perfectly suited to the more polished and cutesy individual, but this trend has a certain edge and a difficult one in that to pull off.  Yes this season is certainly embracing all things pastille and pink combined with girly bows and over the top frill embellishments.

The new pretty suits the likes of controversial stars such as Lily Allen and Florence Welsh.  These girls have a definite edge and a lot of attitude and when you think of girly attire, they are not the first to come to mind.  They are however the ones who have reinvented the prom dress by simply adding her own style to it and taking that goody two shoes element away from the ensemble, either through the addition of one of this season’s dramatic wigs or a pair of old school sneakers.  This is the new pretty, a look thats girly yet still screams don’t mess with me.

This trend shouldn’t look like hours have been spent tweaking it, forget the glossy lashes and polished skin and think something more edgy.  Team a backpack with a lace number; add a cute floral cardigan to a rock tee or throw a pair of killer chunky clogs into the mix and you’ll have this trend down to a tee.

This look is all about adding a little individuality and a little fierceness to the mix, don’t be scared to rip the hem off that girly prom dress and most importantly let your character shine through
