It certainly seemed a fair while ago since Prada’s nylon rucksacks took centre stage on the backs of the urban choice crowd, however it now seems these chic utilitarian creations are about to make a second appearance, especially since the rucksack and bumbag are the perfect tool for today’s hectic lifestyles.
There are an array are styles available from over the top creations in luxurious fabrics to more low-key and hard wearing designs in canvas materials. Marc Jacobs showcased embellished pieces complete with trinkets and fringing details, these details were attached to duffel bags in monogrammed fabrics. Over at Ashish, girls were sporting East Paks created in acid bright colours and ink dyed to keep in with his cyber tribe style. Heikki Salonen revealed an alternative in the shape of a classic leather piece with canvas strap detailing.
If you prefer the more grown-up and sophisticated option, opt for bold buckles in brass and luxurious leather straps, this is the perfect look for the city and still right on trend for the 2010 season. DKNY showcased this grown-up style aptly with hand stitched leather sacs whilst Missoni offered a similar sophisticated style in the shape of slouchy drawstring bags with slashed detailing. Designer Ally Capellino introduced a neutral palette, with designs echoing natural hues and completed with leather binding embellishments.
This season sees another bag style take centre stage in the shape of the old school yet revamped bumbag, innovative and smaller envelope style sizes seemed the most preferred shapes for 2010.
